The Academic Safety Net

At the school level Project H.E.L.P. is structured around the concept of the “academic safety net” – which consists of a school based "academic intervention team" with at least one Project H.E.L.P. teacher assigned to each grade level from Kindergarten through Fifth Grade. This team in turn is supported by the school principal, an educational psychologist, literacy and math consultants, community volunteers, speech and resource teachers, and at one prototype school - access to "school-based" Literacy and Math Centers.  This early academic intervention design is structured to ensure a continuity of opportunity for underachieving students at each grade level within the public school environement, and through the Literacy and Math Center facilities, to provide additional and easily accessible intervention resources for those students who need extra time on task to improve their basic skills and work to grade level standards.
