School-Based Literacy and Math Centers
The "School-Based" Literacy and Math Centers provide additional instruction and personalized attention to those students who need assistance beyond the basic Project H.E.L.P. program. The Literacy and Math Centers are located at the school site and are staffed by credentialed teachers working with trained aides and volunteers. The Centers offer individual and small-group instruction, with a maximum of four students per instructor. By making personalized instruction accessible to students who need extra help before, during and after school, the Centers provide an "academic safety net within a safety net." For students who need even more time on task, Project H.E.L.P. may also make the Centers available on Saturdays, holidays, and during school vacation time frames.
The "School-Based" Literacy and Math Centers at Bishop School will be a key resource in Project H.E.L.P.'s goal of helping to close the academic achievement gap at Bishop School.
